THE POSITION

Step into a meaningful career as an Air Quality Program Specialist with the Department of Environmental Protection. In this role, you will support the Regulatory Development and Training Section in the Bureau of Air Quality as it works to protect the air we all breathe. You will join a team that values careful analysis, teamwork, and clear communication. Your efforts will help move Pennsylvania toward a cleaner and healthier future.


DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports the development of regulations, technical training and policy guidance that helps the Bureau of Air Quality meet important requirements under state and federal law. Your work will guide the creation of regulatory strategies and help strengthen the knowledge of staff across the agency. As a Air Quality Program Specialist, you will perform the following duties:

  • Regulation Development: Prepare rulemaking documents and technical materials that align with state and federal procedures
  • Policy Review: Examine regulatory and policy documents to confirm clarity, completeness and compliance
  • Training Coordination: Plan and organize technical training for Bureau and Regional staff
  • Technical Analysis: Evaluate research and feasibility information to support regulatory strategies
  • Collaboration Efforts: Work with Environmental Protection Agency, Mid-Atlantic Air Management Association, and other partners to coordinate training and share information
  • Program Improvement: Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying and recommending operational enhancements

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience as an Air Quality Specialist (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • One year of experience as an Air Monitoring Program Supervisor (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Three years of professional work in the control and abatement of air pollution and a Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, or an environmental field closely related to Air Quality Management; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and/or training.

Special Requirement:
  • This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.

Other Requirements:
  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
