Job Overview:

Designs and leads data analytics and governance strategies, supporting key program initiatives, strategic planning efforts, and quality assurance for essential reporting deliverables. Manages data analytics staff and maintains stakeholder relationships within the agency, external agency partners, contractors and vendors. Utilizes analytical tools and statistical software including SQL, SAS, Tableau, Snowflake, and Power BI to perform data analysis, develop insights, and support decision making. Applies and manages analytical methodologies to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability of data products. Presents findings and communicates insights effectively to stakeholders, including senior leadership and executive teams, translating data into actionable information that supports organizational priorities.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee team of data analysts providing regular communication and processing of data reports and requests accurately, including receiving, reviewing, and assigning data requests coming from internal and external partners. Communicate with users and other stakeholders to clarify and refine requests/questions.

  2. Provide day-to-day management of staff to ensure effective operations of departmental activities. Identify obstacles, solve problems and implement procedural improvements. Provide coaching, mentoring, and strategies for staff professional development.

  3. As required, conduct data queries, data cleaning, data aggregation, and dashboard preparation using statistical software analytical programs (SAS, SQL, Python, Snowflake, Power BI and/or Tableau). Perform descriptive, predictive, and inferential statistical analysis.

  4. Conceptualize, supervise, assign, review, deliver and/or complete special analytic, governance, and child welfare information system projects.

  5. Work with directors and HR liaisons to ensure staff recruiting and on-boarding, time management, performance management, and professional development processes occur following agency and State of Tennessee requirements and best practices.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree in quantitative or related discipline (i.e., statistics, applied statistics, mathematics, biostatistics, economics, epidemiology, computer science, social or behavioral sciences, health sciences, business, or other related field) and 3 or more years of relevant professional work experience. Or a bachelor's degree in a quantitative or related discipline and 6 or more years of relevant professional work experience. Or 12 or more years of relevant professional work experience. Or an equivalent combination of education, work experience, and skills/certifications may be considered.
