Position Summary

Salary & Compensation

*UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common. Qualifications

  • 5-7 years professional writing and communications experience with a media outlet or communications firm, or in a communications position within an entity such as a university, corporation, or nonprofit organization (Required)
  • Demonstrated experience editing policy briefs, papers, and fact sheets, with exceptional copyediting and proofreading skills. (Required)
  • Experience writing short- and long-form social media copy. (Required)
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat, Adobe Express) and strong understanding of design concepts. (Required)
  • Strong understanding of AP and/or Chicago style. (Required)
  • Ability to synthesize complex social science and health policy concepts into clear, compelling language for lay audiences. (Required)
  • Expert understanding of web accessibility standards (Section 508, WCAG) and ADA compliance. (Required)
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines. (Required)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work both collaboratively and independently. (Required)
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and interest in health policy, health care, and current affairs. (Required)
  • Subject matter experience developing content related to health and health policy. (Required)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace (Sheets, Forms). (Required)
  • Experience with content management systems (especially Drupal), search engine optimization (SEO), and email marketing tools such as Constant Contact. (Preferred)

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

  • Bachelor's Degree in journalism, communications, media, public health, health policy, or similar field or equivalent combination of education and experience (Required)
  • Master's Degree in journalism, communications, media, public health, health policy, or similar field (Preferred)
