Job Role and Responsibility: AMD Design, LLC, a subsidiary of AMD, Inc., is hiring MTS Hardware Development Engineer to Research, design, develop, or test computer or computer-related equipment. Play an active role in developing thermal components using 3D CAD software and advanced engineering analysis. Provide regular Q&A and on-site support to company manufacturing engineering group as well as technical support for customers. Support engineering team by loading, testing, and validating thermal solutions for rackmount server. Troubleshoot thermal and/or airflow issues in new and existing product lines. Work with the engineering team to optimize the thermal performance of servers using empirical data and bench test methods. Optimize airflow speed, volume, and flow paths to meet customer and components requirements. Interface with Firmware team to implement fan speed control algorithm. Support custom engineering projects that require hands-on ability to interconnect complex server systems. Produce thermal reports from experimental data and testing/modeling experience. Manage ECO (Engineering Change Order) process for and provide validation for design modifications. Analyze and solve technical problems/issues in a fast-paced environment. Produce engineering documents that include design drawings, installation manuals, etc. Support procurement team to identify and manage heat sink and air mover vendors. Assist in the development of key thermal components & systems from concept to engineering release of new products. The focus is on running server system thermal tests using data acquisition equipment, thermal stress test software, and external power control equipment. Troubleshoot thermal and/or airflow issues in new and existing product lines using empirical data and commercial CFD software.

Qualifications: Degree required

Master's degree or foreign equivalent Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.

Qualifications: Amount and type of experience required: Three (3) years of experience in the job offered or closely related engineering role.

Alternate combination of education and experience: Employer will alternatively accept a Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field and five (5) years of experience in the job offered or closely related engineering role.

Specific skills required: The following skills are required:

Position requires three (3) years of experience in the following:

  • Hardware and software verification;
  • CAD tools;
  • Product development lifecycles for semiconductor products;
  • Unix or Linux environments;
  • C, C++, or Python;
  • Server Systems;
  • Conducting acoustic testing on server products;
  • Creating thermal test plans to validate hardware;
  • Design flows and methodologies for server validation; and
  • Developing fan speed control for servers.
