Job Summary The AV Field Engineer is responsible for troubleshooting, servicing, configuring, and commissioning complex audiovisual systems in both field and in-house environments. This role supports large-scale commercial AV installations across environments such as corporate offices, retail spaces, educational institutions, industrial facilities, and healthcare settings. The engineer works closely with project teams, clients, and technical staff to ensure systems are properly installed, configured, and operating at optimal performance. Responsibilities include diagnosing technical issues, supporting system commissioning, coordinating network and control system configurations, reviewing technical drawings, and assisting with project closeout activities. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong problem-solving skills, technical expertise in AV technologies, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a high level of professionalism and collaboration. Job Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and diagnose audiovisual equipment and system issues in a service support capacity.
- Test system components and functions while verifying field connections, labeling, installation quality, and system performance.
- Create and coordinate complete drawing packages including signal flow diagrams, display and equipment elevations, speaker placement, and conduit requirements.
- Review and validate AV system designs, identify missing or incorrect materials, and support redesign efforts when necessary.
- Develop change orders and assist with design updates related to project modifications.
- Manage and maintain multiple projects simultaneously while supporting project timelines and technical requirements.
- Provide remote technical support for deployed AV systems.
- Troubleshoot and repair control systems, including Crestron-based platforms.
- Interpret advanced system drawings, technical manuals, specifications, and project documentation.
- Create shop drawings and technical submittals for new project kickoff.
- Configure and support control systems and DSP programming including basic programming and setup of system components such as DSP processors, mixers, wireless microphones, video systems, and lighting systems.
- Program and configure AV equipment including DSP platforms such as Biamp, QSC, BSS, and ClearOne.
- Configure and support control platforms including Crestron, Extron, and AMX systems as well as matrix mixers, switchers, and video teleconferencing systems such as Cisco and Polycom.
- Commission and tune audio systems for optimal performance in complex commercial environments.
- Work both in-office and on-site as required to support installations and service needs.
- Assist with maintaining and completing project punch lists during project closeout.
- Oversee technical coordination of projects including collaboration with IT teams on network requirements.
- Assist sales teams with product demonstrations and system presentations when needed.
- Support project managers with change order designs, technical recommendations, and estimates.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Job Requirements
- Demonstrated experience commissioning large-scale commercial AV systems independently.
- Experience configuring and setting up control systems including Crestron, Extron, and QSC platforms.
- Experience uploading, configuring, and troubleshooting DSP systems including Biamp and QSC Q-SYS.
- Experience configuring and troubleshooting VLAN networks and coordinating network requirements with clients.
- Experience tuning complex, multi-divisible commercial audio systems.
- Experience configuring and troubleshooting video teleconferencing systems such as Cisco and Polycom.
- Ability to interpret blueprints, technical documentation, and project specifications.
- Ability to create detailed project scopes of work, define tasks, and manage projects through completion and customer turnover.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical thinking, and communication skills.
- Ability to effectively read, write, and present technical information.
- Ability to travel within regional project territories as required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Microsoft Project.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with project teams, technical staff, and clients.
- Self-motivated with a professional and positive approach to work and team collaboration.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field preferred.
- Coursework or training in networking technologies preferred.
Work Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience working with commercial audiovisual systems.
- Experience commissioning and supporting large-scale commercial AV deployments.
