Microsoft Discovery & Quantum (MDQ) is a specialized organization at the forefront of quantum computing, AI-driven scientific discovery, and robotics, working in an environment defined by evolving priorities and continuous innovation.

We are looking for a Senior HR Business Partner to join the team! The Senior HR Business Partner plays a key role in shaping the people strategy that enables technical talent to do meaningful work-balancing applied research, product delivery, and long-term capability building.

This role partners closely with technical and business leaders to build an inclusive culture, support leadership effectiveness, and sustain a healthy and engaged workforce within one of Microsoft's most forward-looking portfolios. The role requires business insight, credibility with technical leaders, and the ability to translate complexity into clear, people-centered outcomes that support both individuals and the organization.



Responsibilities
  • Strategic Partner to MDQ Leadership: Act as the primary HR thought partner to senior technical and business leaders in MDQ, shaping people and organizational strategy in a highly specialized, researchdriven, and fastevolving environment.
  • EndtoEnd People Strategy: Lead integrated talent, organization, and culture strategies-spanning workforce planning, org design, leadership effectiveness, inclusion, rewards, and employee experience-to support applied research, product delivery, and longterm capability building.
  • Change & Complexity Leadership: Navigate high ambiguity and transformation, proactively identifying organizational risks and opportunities and translating complex business and technical realities into clear, peoplecentered solutions.
  • Executive Coaching & Influence: Coach senior leaders and people managers on leadership effectiveness, team health, and decisionmaking, building credibility and trust with deeply technical stakeholders.
  • Enterprise & COE Partnership: Partner closely with HR Centers of Excellence (Talent, Rewards, Learning, HR Consulting) to deliver scalable, compliant, and highimpact solutions while operating with significant autonomy and accountability.


Qualifications
Required Qualifications (Minimum / Required Qualifications)
  • 8+ years demonstrated experience partnering with senior leadership to address complex organizational challenges, with solid business acumen and the ability to translate strategy into actionable people solutions; proven capability in organizational design, workforce planning, and change leadership; a data-driven mindset to inform decisions and measure impact; and exceptional executive communication, coaching, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Master's Degree in Business, Human Resources, or related field AND 4+ years experience in human resources or related processes (e.g., hiring, training, performance management) OR Bachelor's Degree in Business, Human Resources, or related field AND 7+ years experience in experience in human resources or related processes (e.g., hiring, performance management) OR equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience partnering withleadership on complex people and organizational challenges.
  • Solid business acumen with the ability to translate strategy into actionable people solutions.
  • Proven capability in organizational design, workforce planning, and change leadership.
  • Datadriven mindset, leveraging insights to influence decisions and measure impact.
  • Experience supporting technical, product, engineering, or researchdriven organizations.
  • Track record of leading people strategy through periods of significant transformation or scale.
  • Deep understanding of inclusive leadership practices and culture shaping.
  • Ability to operate independently with broad scope and limited direction.

This role will be based out of Redmond.

HR Business Partnership IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $106,400 - $203,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $137,600 - $222,600 per year.
