We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, collaborative accounting professional to join Microsoft's Corporate Accounting organization. This Finance Director - Corporate Accounting role will partner closely with finance and business teams across the Company to drive our core close and financial review rhythms and provide technical accounting guidance on the financial statement impact of strategic business decisions. The Finance Director - Corporate Accounting role will also support Corporate Accounting leadership in external forums including the Financial Accounting Standards Advisory Council ("FASAC") and the Corporate Controllers Roundtable ("CCR") and actively participate in the accounting standard-setting process. This cross-functional, cross-Company role requires effective leadership and influence, executive presence in both written and verbal form, and the ability to partner effectively with senior business and finance leaders. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual who has the ability to work through ambiguity, proactively solve problems, and build robust partnerships.



Responsibilities
  • Lead the Corporate Accounting consolidated close review process to ensure that our financial results are accurately stated and in compliance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Lead the preparation and review of Audit Committee communications, including the review of critical accounting policies, estimates, and judgments, and drafting summaries of significant technical accounting matters.
  • Provide deep technical accounting expertise and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including finance, accounting, and tax to provide guidance to stakeholders on the financial statement impact of strategic business decisions and other ad hoc requests.
  • Partner with Investor Relations to review quarterly earnings release materials for accuracy and completeness.
  • Support Microsoft accounting leadership in external standard-setting and accounting forums, including FASAC and the CCR. Monitor FASB and SEC activity, draft comment letters, and translate emerging guidance into Microsoft's accounting policies and disclosures.
  • Drive continuous improvement and process excellence. Identify potential gaps and risks, propose solutions, and work across teams to execute. Simplify and automate processes, systems, and tools.


Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Business, Accounting /Finance, or related field AND 8+ years accounting or finance experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting /Finance, or related field AND 11+ years accounting or finance experience OR equivalent experience.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional accounting certification such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent.
  • Proficient project management skills.
  • Ability to effectively identify and scope issues, apply the relevant knowledge base and make decisions with conviction and/or escalate as needed.
  • Superb business partnering and cross-group collaboration skills; ability to steward large groups of diverse stakeholders, gather different points of view, and create recommended approaches, influencing across multiple functions in a complex organization.
  • Experience with internal control and process design and implementation.
  • Comfortable executing strategic processes and initiatives within a fast-paced, deadline-oriented, and complex environment.


Accounting IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $130,900 - $277,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $165,600 - $303,600 per year.
