The Medical College of Wisconsin's Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine is seeking a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. As a key member of our multidisciplinary behavioral health team, the Advanced Practice Provider (APP) provides comprehensive psychiatric care to a diverse patient population within an outpatient clinic setting. This role involves performing psychiatric evaluations, managing medication regimens, and collaborating with an engaging academic medical community to improve patient outcomes and mental wellness.

Position Highlights
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work alongside a multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, and social workers within a prestigious academic medical center.

  • Academic Integration: Engage in a teaching environment with active involvement in mentoring, case conferences, grand rounds, and interdisciplinary teaching sessions.

  • Quality & Innovation: Participate in the development of quality indicators and outcomes dashboards to evaluate and improve patient care delivery.

  • Autonomy: Practice in an independent, outpatient clinic with professional support from the Adult Ambulatory Division Administrator.

  • Resource Navigation: Facilitate patient referrals to community healthcare resources in collaboration with social services and case management.

Core Responsibilities
  • Psychiatric Assessment: Perform comprehensive histories and physical exams; identify physical, cognitive, and psychosocial findings to formulate accurate diagnoses.

  • Diagnostic Management: Order and interpret screening and diagnostic tests, communicating results and documentation in a timely manner.

  • Treatment Planning: Develop and monitor pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans for psychiatric conditions, adjusting based on patient response and effectiveness.

  • Clinical Documentation: Write accurate progress notes, procedure notes, and orders within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).

  • Patient Education: Counsel patients and families regarding mental health maintenance, disease management, and preventive behaviors.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Maintain key regulatory requirements including CMS, Joint Commission, and institutional privileging standards.

  • Professional Development: Stay current on developments in the field of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine through professional associations, literature, and continuing education.

Qualifications:
Preferred Experience:
  • Education: Master's degree or higher from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Licensure: Current state licensure and board certification (PMHNP certification preferred).
  • Skills: Strong interpersonal communication, proficiency in EMR documentation, and commitment to evidence-based psychiatric care.
  • Flexibility: Ability to adapt to changing business needs and scheduling requirements.
Minimum Education:
  • Advanced Practice Nurse: Master's Degree or higher in Nursing from a nationally accredited organization.

  • Wisconsin RN License

  • Wisconsin Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber License

  • DEA registration (if required for the position)

  • Nurse Practitioner Certification from a nationally accredited professional nursing organization
