This is a Full-Time position (80 hours per pay period) with a Monday - Friday, day shift schedule, primarily located at our Scripps Corporate Headquarters in La Jolla. Once training is complete, this position has a hybrid work schedule with a minimum of 2-3 days in office per week, subject to change based off of business needs. The Coordinator, Legal Department is responsible for the following primary job duties, amongst other duties as assigned:

  • Coordinating 3rd party depositions and trial subpoenas for SMF providers requiring interaction with attorneys, providers and Scripps Health staff.
  • Working with insurance carrier representative to assign outside counsel as deemed necessary by Corporate Counsel.
  • Ensuring proper payment for 3rd party depositions and prepare small claims complaints for review by Corporate Counsel associated with any failure to pay on 3rd party depositions.
  • Assisting legal department with handling Notices of Intent, Summons and Complaints and Medical Board matters for SMF groups and providers requiring interaction with attorneys, insurance carrier representatives, medical board investigators, SMF providers and Scripps Health staff.
  • Monitoring docket alerts for new cases filed against Scripps Health or any of its foundation medical groups.
  • Assisting in getting insurance carrier and outside counsel needed records from ROI.
  • Assisting in procuring and maintaining necessary documents for audits of SMF legal matters, as well as collecting data and responding to at least twice annual audits.
  • Assisting in providing necessary claim information to SMF providers in connection with claims as needed for credentialing.
  • Submitting precautionary matters to insurance carrier for SMF groups and providers.
  • Assisting in preparing patient legal termination letters and all required internal submissions for review and approval by Corporate Counsel.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Some college.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills; innovative with ability to identify and solve problems.
  • Able to adapt, prioritize and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a legal office and or insurance office; some legal knowledge surrounding deposition and trial testimony.
