Job Purpose:

The Financial Analyst provides investigative and analytical support for our future client in the Northern District of California, in support of the Financial Litigation Program (FLP). This role works closely with Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) and legal staff to analyze financial information, identify assets, and support efforts related to criminal and civil debt collection cases. The position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret complex financial records to support litigation and enforcement actions.



Responsibilities:


  • Support AUSAs and FLP staff in criminal and civil debt collection investigations
  • Prepare detailed written reports summarizing financial findings and recommendations
  • Assist in determining the collectability of debts and identifying next steps for enforcement
  • Draft written discovery requests (e.g., subpoenas, interrogatories, document requests)
  • Conduct research using financial databases, public records, and government systems
  • Analyze information from sources such as:

    • Secretary of State records
    • Court filings and lien records
    • Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filings


  • Evaluate and interpret results from database searches and financial systems
  • Prepare clear, concise financial reports for attorneys and leadership
  • Develop charts, tables, and summaries to support case analysis
  • Provide verbal updates and briefings as needed
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed and support monthly reporting requirements
  • Collaborate with AUSAs, paralegals, and other financial analysts
  • Assist with administrative and support tasks as needed
  • Ensure all work is completed with a high level of accuracy (95% performance standard)
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial and legal information
  • Conduct financial analyses of individuals, businesses, and partnerships to assess assets and ability to pay debts
  • Review and analyze financial records including:

    • Bank statements
    • Tax returns
    • Credit reports
    • Loan applications
    • Real property and escrow records


  • Trace the movement of funds across complex transactions and financial accounts
  • Identify assets that may be subject to collection or recovery under applicable laws


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in financial analysis, accounting, or financial management
  • Experience in a federal government environment preferred
  • Strong understanding of:

    • Financial statements and accounting principles
    • Tax documents and banking records
    • Business structures (corporations, LLCs, partnerships, trusts)


  • Knowledge of debt collection processes (e.g., garnishments, liens) preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Access, and financial databases
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
