As a part-time Library Assistant for our Perry Library, you will provide routine customer service, material routing, and clerical work for the library. Your role will be essential in guiding our customers to explore and use our library services.

We Require

  • Two years of customer service experience

  • High School diploma or GED

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in substitution for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis

We Also Value

  • Associate's degree or higher in Library Science, English, Liberal Arts, or a related field

  • Experience working or volunteering in a public library

  • Bilingual skills in Spanish and English

Job Contributions

  • Answer questions and assist customers with finding material and using the library

  • Issue, verify, and renew library cards and inform customers of their account status

  • Resolve customer concerns by phone, in person, or e-mail and refer escalated customer concerns to appropriate staff members or supervisors

  • Assist customers with the self-service payment kiosk, printing, and study rooms

  • Process library materials for shelving and routing and assist with maintenance and display of the collection.

  • Light cleaning duties, such as dusting, straightening, and general tidying

Working Conditions

  • Library environment, located on the grounds of the Chandler Unified School District's Perry High School

  • Requires evening and weekend availability and the ability to cover shifts at nearby library branches

  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds floor-to-waist; lift up to 5 pounds waist-to-shoulder, lift 1 pound shoulder-to-overhead, carry up to 10 pounds a distance of up to 50 feet, and push/pull up to 50 pounds a distance of 100 feet

  • Must complete a background check and fingerprint identification upon hire to secure and maintain an Identity Verified Print (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card
