Job Description

Shift: Night
Shift Premium Amount: $1.00
Pay Rate: $24.00


Perform duties involving the setup and operation of multiple polyethylene extrusion machines and auxiliary equipment to produce film to meet quality and production requirements within the extruder department as stated in ISO 9001:2000 work instructions. Monitor and maintain correct raw material levels including repros. Receive and inspect raw materials and transfer them to the correct inventory areas within the department. Work in production control/inventory system to maintain production requirements and to correct mistakes when needed. Using the recognized methods and procedures, schedule production runs on all extruders to maintain the correct film inventory. Monitor and maintain the ISO 9001:2000 instructions. Ensure there is coverage within the department by contacting department personnel. Assist the Ohio facility with maintaining their requirements on film from Keyser. Provide leadership within the extruder department.



Essential Functions & Responsibilities



  • Lead and help direct activities of all personnel in the extruder department with guidance from Extruder Manager.
  • Monitor or operate extruders to minimize downtime or disruption of schedule. Work from a generated schedule to maintain a correct raw material and film inventory. Generate work orders, and make decisions as to the sequence of setups and processes within recognized methods and procedures. Assist the production control personnel in Keyser and Garfield to maintain film requirements.
  • Obtain work instruction and follow prescribed procedures to set or monitor a limited number of barrel, auger, extruder and related forming/winding controls such as pressure, speed, tension, and heat. Move and position nip rollers, winder shafts, and hot knives as required for proper operation. Give direction on scrap and repro recovery. Make sure containers are in a proper feed position. Perform all necessary machine adjustments including die adjustments, blender settings, etc.
  • Operate equipment or monitor continuing operations to maintain proper flow of raw and scrap film material and forming, cutting, and winding operations. Enter and record completed work; make tolerance and/or measurement checks as required. Identify and inspect material, weigh, and place in designated storage or work area.
  • When required, assist maintenance in installation and testing of new or existing equipment. Will perform other similar or related duties as assigned or directed, including cleaning machinery and work areas.
  • Advise supervision or maintenance of malfunctions resulting in defective material, i.e. Wrinkles, gels, blocking, port lines, splits, discoloration or other related problems. Complete and enter all machine problem areas using the correct maintenance forms and procedures. Ability to provide technical assistance of extrusion operation.
  • Maintain and update assigned records. Assure that time and production information is properly recorded on required forms. Access and maintain work instructions as prescribed by the ISO 9001:2000 standards to achieve customer satisfaction in quality and production requirements.
  • Ability to fill-in and perform all extruder job classifications within the department. Follow all prescribed safety rules. Perform other similar or related duties as assigned.
  • Ensure there is coverage within the department by monitoring the department vacation schedule that is maintained by supervision and contact department personnel when openings need covered.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma.
Experience:



  1. Ability to operate a forklift and material handling equipment
  2. Ability to lift a maximum weight of 75 pounds as needed
  3. Ability to operate a LAN computer terminal with some computer skills.
  4. Satisfactory Extruder "A" skills test
  5. Previous Extruder "B" and "A" experience
  6. Completion of Bennett Mechanical Assessment with 70% accuracy
  7. Completion of T.A.P. Assessment with 60% accuracy
  8. Completion of Basic Math Assessment with 80% accuracy
  9. High school graduate or equivalent
  10. Successful completion of Predictive Index survey
