Summary
The Pharmacy Technician Supervisor oversees the daily operations, workflow, and performance of pharmacy technicians to support safe, efficient, and compliant pharmacy services. Working under the direction of pharmacy leadership, this role coordinates staffing, onboarding, training, competency assessment, and performance management for technical staff while promoting service excellence, regulatory compliance, and effective communication across the department. The supervisor serves as a key resource for technicians and pharmacists and helps standardize practices, develop staff capabilities, and maintain operational continuity. This position is responsible for overseeing the daily workflow of the department, supervising technical staff, and supporting recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing professional development initiatives. The Pharmacy Technician Supervisor collaborates closely with pharmacy leadership to establish performance expectations, conduct evaluations, develop training programs and competency assessments, coordinate educational activities, and ensure technicians are equipped to meet departmental and organizational standards. Does this position require Patient Care? No Essential Functions Oversees and coordinates the daily workflow and activities of pharmacy technicians. Serves as a communication liaison between pharmacy leadership, pharmacists, technician leaders, and pharmacy technicians. Prepares written performance evaluations for pharmacy technicians and submits them to the Director of Pharmacy for review and approval. Participates in the recruitment, interviewing, and selection of candidates for pharmacy technician positions. Develops, administers, and evaluates competency assessments and testing programs for new and existing pharmacy technicians. Manages the orientation, onboarding, and training of new employees on the technical functions of assigned pharmacy areas. Collaborates with technician specialists and pharmacy leadership to develop, maintain, and update training manuals and educational resources. Coordinates in-service education and continuing development activities for technical staff. Develops and implements task analyses and competency evaluation tools. Communicates performance expectations and departmental standards to technicians and monitors adherence to established requirements. Supports staff development initiatives and promotes a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement. Assists in maintaining compliance with applicable regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards.
