TheEmergency Services Support Assistantperforms clinical, clerical, and administrative support functions for the Emergency Department. These functions are performedin accordance withall applicable laws andregulationsandMedStar Georgetown's philosophy, policies,procedures,and standards.

Primary Duties:

  • Provides direct patient care under the supervision of the Nursing or Medical staff, performing routine sterile andnonsterileprocedures and splinting according to Unit/Hospital policy.Participates in patient and family teaching as directed including instructions related to disposition.

  • Recognizes and reports significant changes inpatient'scondition to the nursing and medicalstaff andperforms necessaryinitialinterventions,as necessary. Manages the dissemination of information to referring physicians and ensures that copies of the patient's medical record areforwardedto appropriatefollow-upcare providers and medical records.

  • Assistswith patient admissions to the Hospital from the Emergency Department. Answers phones androutescalls toappropriate personnelor departments, exemplifyingGuest,and staff relations in all activities.

  • Performs Quality Improvement activities to ensure accuracy of duties performed by self and co-workers. Precepts new associates as assigned to ensure all job duties have been performed on ashift-by-shiftbasis. Participates in department Quality Improvement and Research initiatives as directed.

  • Exemplifies our SPIRIT values in all activities.Maintains direct observation ofpatientwhen functioning as an Observation Attendant.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • In addition, one of the following three requirements must be met:

  • Successful completion of an EMT-B program; or one year experience as a nursing assistant, office medical assistant; or emergency department assistant in a medical setting;

  • BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing)student who has completed the sophomore year and has at least one semester of clinical experience.

  • Basic Life Support.

  • One year'sexperience in a hospital emergency department preferred.
