| Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The Office of Faculty Governance serves the faculty government needs of the University. The department's purpose is to facilitate faculty government and to serve as the central coordinator for the work of: (1) the Chair of the Faculty; the 95-member Faculty Council; the 24 standing committees of the General Faculty; nomination and selection of award recipients ; annual nominations and elections for approximately one-third of the 185 elected positions in faculty government; publication and distribution of The Faculty Code of University Government, maintenance of an extensive website pertaining to Faculty Governance affairs, and other campus concerns relevant to the work of the faculty and; (2) faculty relations with its Board of Trustees, the Board of Governors, the Faculty Assembly, the General Administration, the Legislature, and other outside entities. The department provides assistance and information to faculty, administrators, and student government on matters of faculty legislation, curricular and degree changes, and other issues of concern; serves as a conduit for communications with the more than 4,000-member faculty and with retired faculty; manages the Faculty Commons; and provides research, coordination, and other assistance for the Chair of the Faculty, the Secretary of the Faculty, and various faculty committees. |
| Position Summary |
Hybrid: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy.
UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
The University Program Associate supports the communications, programming, and research efforts of the Office of Faculty Governance (including the Secretary of the Faculty and the Chair of the Faculty), the Faculty Council, and faculty committees. This position provides organizational, logistical, and operational support for the Office and its programs. Committee duties include: meeting scheduling, reserving meeting spaces, noticing meetings, updating web pages, maintaining SharePoint sites, scheduling Zoom sessions, compiling award nomination packets, maintaining committee rosters, records management; as well as developing and analyzing Excel spreadsheets. The position requires the ability to take meeting minutes, write content, handle correspondence, proofread and copy edit written materials and web content, develop and maintain Excel spreadsheets, assist with research and editing citations for awards, and maintain the Office's website, including the online meeting calendar. |
| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
| Management Preferences |
* Proficiency with Microsoft 365, particularly Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
* Strong writing and editing skills, including experience taking meeting minutes and creating newsletters.
* Web content management experience, especially with WordPress.
* Demonstrated experience scheduling, managing, and tracking meetings.
* Prior experience working at
UNC-Chapel Hill or in higher education. |

| Special Physical/Mental Requirements |
Ability to climb stairs, with or without an accommodation, as the office location of this position is on the 2nd floor of a building that does not have an elevator. Ability to carry supplies, set up tables, and rearrange room furniture before and after meetings and events, with or without an accommodation. |
