Technical Writer (Space Systems)


Overview:

Marotta Controls, Inc. is looking for a Technical Writer to assist our world-class team of engineers. The team designs and develops valves and fluid control products for launch vehicles, spacecraft, satellites, and space station applications. The Technical Writer will create and maintain technical documentation to support new product development, training initiatives, and legacy programs.


Essential or Primary / Key Responsibilities:


  • Create, edit, and maintain engineering specifications, test plans, procedures, reports, and related technical documentation.
  • Draft, review, and edit documents to ensure consistency, clarity, grammar, punctuation, and compliance with documentation standards.
  • Facilitate training documentation and structure to support operational goals and objectives.
  • Coordinate document reviews, consolidate technical inputs from subject matter experts, and support program documentation deliverables.
  • Maintain documentation throughout the product lifecycle and incorporate stakeholder feedback into document revisions.
  • Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and program teams to understand products, processes, and documentation requirements.
  • Ensure consistency, quality, formatting, and adherence to established documentation standards across all deliverables.



Minimum Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, STEM, or a related technical discipline required. Candidates with a bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Technical Writing, or a related field will be considered if they have experience working in a technical or engineering environment.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Understanding of technical information and ability to simplify and communicate with nontechnical people.
  • Ability to develop procedures, work instructions, and technical content with guidance from engineering subject matter experts.
  • Experience supporting aerospace, defense, manufacturing, or other regulated industries is preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple documentation projects and competing priorities.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.). Experience with advanced document formatting, styles, templates, tracked changes, tables, captions, and automated document features is preferred.
  • Excellent technical writing, editing, proofreading, and document organization skills.
  • Ability to interpret customer specifications, engineering drawings, technical requirements, and related documentation.
  • Ability to work closely with a team of engineers and technicians.
  • Must be a US Citizen.



Work Environment:


  • This job interacts both in a professional office environment and a manufacturing/machine shop environment.
  • This role requires the use of standard office equipment and occasional work in manufacturing areas where appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required.
  • Some travel between our Montville and Parsippany locations will be required.
  • Minimal travel is expected for this position (<5%).



This position is at our Parsippany, NJ office location.

Pay Range: $75,000 - $100,000/year
