We are seeking a full-time Research Technician to join the Sette Lab at the La Jolla Institute for Immunology. As part of the Center for Vaccine Innovation and the Center for Autoimmunity and Inflammation, the Sette Lab is working on a variety of high-impact scientific projects investigating immune responses to infection and vaccines, as well as immune responses to autoantigens in neurodegenerative diseases. We are looking for someone who has a drive for discovery, and paving the way to improve our understanding of how the human body can prevent or fight infection by developing outstanding immunity.

Responsibilities:


Under the supervision of PhD level lab scientists, the Research Technician will assist in performing research in human immunology. The Research Technician will primarily perform and analyze data derived from flow cytometry-based experiments using state-of-the-art technology. The Research Technician will apply a wide range of other immunological techniques including but not limited to isolating primary cells, long term cell culture, and FluoroSpot/ELISPOT assays.



Other responsibilities include preparing buffers, solutions, and routine lab chemicals. Laboratory administrative duties include maintaining a research database, data entry into spreadsheets, and ordering/receiving supplies. Duties also include installing, operating, and maintaining laboratory equipment. Organizing and keeping accurate and meticulous records of all reagents in freezers, refrigerators, and liquid nitrogen tanks.

Preferred qualifications:



  • Previous laboratory experience in cell biology or immunology laboratory.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in blood processing, cell culture, flow cytometry, FluoroSpot/ELISPOT, PCR, or other immunological/molecular techniques.
  • Proficient usage of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with data analysis and visualization.



Minimum qualifications:



  • B.A./B.S. in a biological science, chemistry, or biochemistry, or equivalent knowledge and experience
  • Experience using basic laboratory equipment
  • Accurate record keeping and organizational skills
  • Oral and written communication skills necessary for teamwork
  • Strong critical thinking skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Desire to continually improve/develop new skills and learn from your teammates



Special Conditions:



  • Must be willing to work with human blood
  • Must be willing to work with recombinant DNA and biohazardous materials
