The UCSD Mathematics Department is a dynamic unit with 77 faculty members and approximately 50+ additional non-FTEs in various instructional and research titles. These academics work on a broad range of research funded by diverse federal, state, and private agencies. The department comprises dedicated career staff, 180 Master's and Ph.D. students, and over 2,400 undergraduate students. Together, they generate high-caliber research in various fields and provide an outstanding graduate program that attracts top-ranked students, contributing to the department's academic reputation. The department maintains a large undergraduate program that prepares over 2,400 pure and applied mathematics majors, as well as students from 57 other majors across the campus. This program provides a strong fundamental background in mathematics needed to succeed in various career options. The faculty are engaged in a vigorous research program with an average of 72 active awards in many interdisciplinary areas, totaling approximately $20 million per year. The instructional program enrolls approximately 30,000 graduate and undergraduate students annually. As the fundamental language of science, mathematics is an essential intellectual tool required by a trained workforce to create the technological advances of the future. The department is home to The Center for Computational Mathematics (CCoM), which consists of a broad and diverse group of faculty, researchers, and students who share a common interest in the mathematical aspects of computation. The Math Department hosts the Director and staff of the CSU/UC Mathematics Diagnostic Testing Project (MDTP), an intersegmentalstatewide education project in California, and the Director and staff of the Math Testing and Placement (MTP) Office. Applies professional Student Services concepts. Provides varied student services to students, faculty, and department / school / college management. Works on moderately complex issues. Receives assistance on more complex issues. Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Student Services, as Advising Officer, this position will provide professional staff support for the administration and implementation of the Undergraduate educational program in the Department of Mathematics. Incumbent will ensure that all students are making progress towards their degree and career goals while remaining within established university and program guidelines and regulations. Will work as an important part of the Mathematics Student Affairs unit to support faculty initiatives to encourage students' academic achievement. Independently responsible for student affairs functions related to training grants program - including all advising, administration, management and reporting requirements related to the implementation of the student components of departmental training grants. Major functional areas include student advising (Undergraduate and Graduate), outreach, and departmental and institutional development.
