THE POSITION

Are you a motivated and enthusiastic college student who likes to stay organized, work on projects, and learn new skills? The Public School Employees' Retirement System has an exciting opportunity for Retirement Systems Interns in the Employer Service Center. This role gives you the chance to gain hands-on experience while supporting important work that helps school districts and other employers throughout Pennsylvania.


DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports a variety of administrative and project tasks within the Employer Service Center. The role helps ensure accurate communication, organized documentation, and smooth workflow for the Bureau. As a Retirement Systems Intern, you will perform the following duties:

  • Data Tasks: Enter information accurately into computer systems
  • Documentation Updates: Maintain and revise materials used by the Bureau
  • Project Support: Assist with seasonal and ongoing projects within the office
  • Training Materials: Help prepare and organize content for training manuals
  • Communication Assistance: Send email correspondence and assist with preparing PowerPoint slides
  • Customer Service: Communicate clearly with staff and provide support as needed
Essential functions of this position include proficiency with computers as well as the ability to complete assignments in a professional way, follow directions, and communicate clearly in writing and in speech. The role also requires providing good customer service and being able to learn new skills and software.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • This internship begins upon the date of hire and runs until graduation.
  • Work Schedule: Students must be able to work a minimum of 15 hours per 2 week pay period during business hours of 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Friday. Within these parameters, hours are flexible with school schedules.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. This position will require initial training in-office up to four weeks prior to being able to telework. Once initial training is satisfactorily completed, this position will be report to the office up to once a week, based on operational needs. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Internship Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in college full-time (carrying 12 or more undergraduate credits, or 9 or more graduate credits)
  • You must be in good academic standing (GPA of 2.0 or higher).
  • You must be at least 18 years of age.
  • You must possess computer proficiency, such as familiarity with the keyboard, typing skills, and the ability to operate or work on a computer.
  • You must possess professional skills such as effective communication, teamwork, time management, and computer literacy.

Additional Requirements:

  • This position is located in Harrisburg, PA. You must live within commuting distance to Harrisburg, PA.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Prior customer service experience
