University Health is seeking Critical Care RNs for our Surgical ICU department.
- Based on specialized nursing knowledge, the highly trained Critical Care Nurse RN, Surgical ICU works in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit, manages the conditions of patients who have serious, complex, or life-threatening conditions;
- Manages multiple traumatic injuries involving more than 2 major systems (e.g., head, chest, abdomen);
- Makes decisions regarding care escalation, use of aggressive interventions;
- Assesses rapid hemodynamic and respiratory conditions and intervene promptly to mitigate complications of pneumothorax in critically injured trauma patients;
- Manages protocol for sedating patients in accordance with the Behavioral Pain Scale (BPS) and Critical Care Pain Observation Tool (CPOT), administering Daily Sedation Interruption (SATs) and Spontaneous Breathing Trials (SBTs);
- Manages shock protocol when organ dysfunction occurs and administers inotropes if in cardiogenic shock;
- Manages protocol involving central lines and arterial lines in Trendelenburg for internal jugular or subclavian treatment, monitoring for pneumothorax, bleeding, or air embolism;
- Delivers Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) by assessing Acute Kidney Injury (AKI), priming CRRT circuits, and managing electrolytes;
- Treats cardiogenic shock, acute coronary syndrome, severe heart failure with Intra-Aortic Ballon Bump (IABP) Protocol, executing hemodynamic monitoring protocol;
- Manages intracranial pressure (ICP) in patients with traumatic brain injury and subarachnoid hemorrhage by external ventricular drain (EVD) protocol;
- Activates Massive Blood Transfusion Protocol (MBTP), managing complications such as transfusion reactions, volume overload, coagulopathy, electrolyte imbalances, and organ dysfunction (especially kidney and lungs);
- Manages ICU Code Blue Protocol;
- Treat respiratory failure, administer Rapid Sequence Intubation (RSI) protocol;
- Manages ICU Sepsis Protocol;
- Manages administration of vasopressors and inotropes to raise blood pressure (vasoconstriction) and boost heart contractability;
- Provides and manages other critical care as assigned.
Minimum Educational Requirement: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in nursing or directly related field.
Licensure Requirement: Eligibility for Missouri RN license, or eligibility for Multi-State (Compact) License
