What to Expect
Tesla is seeking an experienced Vision Systems Engineer to apply their experience to cutting-edge manufacturing equipment and high-speed manufacturing processes. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to Tesla's automated battery cell manufacturing line and to apply innovative software solutions to equipment for manufacturing of Tesla batteries.

This role will design, develop, scale up, and optimize image processing platforms and tools for battery manufacturing within a cross-functional engineering team. In this role, you will work closely with many organizations both internal and external to Tesla, developing the tools necessary to support bringing new battery designs from initial concept through into full production.

The battery cell is a critical component in Tesla vehicles and storage systems. This role will have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to our products. The work environment is demanding, fast-paced and incredibly exciting. The ideal candidate should be ready to push their limits, as they join a highly motivated and capable team to make unbelievable things a reality.

What You'll Do
  • Design, develop, and maintain high-performance C#/.NET applications for vision automation systems
  • Integrate and leverage vision libraries (HALCON, OpenCV, PyTorch, TensorFlow) to implement image processing, object detection, pattern recognition, classification, and quality inspection algorithms
  • Develop and maintain WPF-based user interfaces using the MVVM pattern, ensuring clean separation of concerns, testability, and maintainable code
  • Collaborate in requirements gathering sessions to translate business needs into technical specifications and feature designs
  • Contribute to CI/CD workflows by writing clean, testable code, performing peer reviews, and ensuring deployment reliability
  • Debug complex system behaviors using logs and observability tools, analyzing traces to identify root causes, and improve system stability
  • Write clear documentation for APIs, modules, and system behavior to support team knowledge sharing and onboarding
  • Apply strong software development fundamentals - including software design (Software Design Patterns), algorithms, data structures, modularity, and code maintainability - to build robust, scalable solutions

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
  • Proficiency in C#, Python, or other object-oriented programming languages (i.e. C++ with cross-language interop) - with a solid grasp of design principles and clean coding practices
  • Proven experience working with vision libraries such as HALCON, OpenCV, PyTorch, or TensorFlow including image acquisition, preprocessing, feature extraction, machine learning, and algorithm optimization
  • Cross-Platform UI design experience (e.g. MAUI, Avalonia) is a plus - CUDA experience is a strong plus
  • Demonstrated ability to debug complex systems using centralized logging tools like Splunk, or similar - with a strong analytical mindset
  • Experience using developer tools like Git and issue-tracking tools like Jira - with a disciplined workflow and attention to version control hygiene
  • Familiarity with React (or willingness to learn) is a preferred skill
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, thrive in fast-paced environments, and meet deadlines without compromising quality
  • Excellent communication skills - able to contribute meaningfully in technical discussions and collaborate effectively across teams
  • A proactive mindset: comfortable working independently, taking ownership of features, and proposing improvements
