The Center for Pain Medicine is a high-volume specialty clinic with multiple satellite clinics that focuses on a variety of chronic pain diagnoses. The Center for Pain Medicine provides holistic care to include procedural intervention, infusions, psychology services and medication management. The Center for Pain Medicine also collaborates with the department of Psychiatry to provide infusion therapy for a select group of patients. The clinical nurse provides care for patients with multiple or complex pain management needs. They provide advanced clinical skills in assessing, treating, and evaluating patients with chronic pain. They facilitate an interdisciplinary and collaborative approach to the treatment of patients and will assist with patient inquiries in person, via phone, and electronic health record messaging. The clinical nurse provides emotional and psychological support to patients with chronic pain and coordinates clinical care amongst multiple disciplines to support patients' needs. The clinical nurse is responsible for assisting the faculty, fellows, and residents in procedure rooms by circulating, administering procedural moderate sedation, and coordinating the care of patients throughout the procedural period (before, during and after each procedure). The nurse will be responsible for initiating and monitoring patients undergoing infusion treatments at the Center for Pain Medicine. *Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care *Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams; carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required *Performs nursing care for patients with more complex needs with assistance and supervision *Assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team

- Provides nursing care to all Pain Medicine patients.
- Reviews with patients and families, the disease process, the treatment options, as well as the potential outcomes.
- Provides emotional and psychological support to the Pain Medicine patient and the family.
- Acts as a liaison between the patient and a variety of medical disciplines as well as other facilities. Communicates by phone, fax, email or mail.
- Fosters continuity of care within the healthcare system.
- Serves as a patient advocate within the health care system.
- Provides telephone teaching, triage and advice.
- Documents all nursing actions taken in APEX
- Respond to clinic emergencies (Code Blue, acute symptoms during clinic visit, etc.)

Maintain Apex training and Utilize Electronic Health Record (APEX) for documentation within the scope of practice of an RN. Open and respond to APEX inbox to include staff messages, patient advice, telephone encounters, media manager and others as needed Demonstrate the ability to communicate with patients both by telephone, in person and in writing using MyChart in clear, easy to understand and grammatically correct language as an essential function of their job. This includes being able to write clinical instructions that may not be possible using APeX smart phrases and other technical shortcuts. Required Qualification
- Minimum 5 years working as a registered nurse
- Minimum 2 years as a registered nurse working with patients with chronic pain
- Minimum 2 years working in an ambulatory clinic as a registered nurse within the last 3 years
- Minimum 1 year IV start experience as a registered nurse within the last 5 years
- Minimum 1 year experience monitoring patients with continuous telemetry
- Minimum 1 year experience in telephone triage, inbasket management and care coordination in an ambulatory clinic setting
- Ability to wear lead apron for up to 8 hours per day
- This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
- Knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
- Recent experience in the use of electronic medical record documentation
Preferred Qualification
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Experience and fluency in working with computers
- Experience with EPIC
- Proficiency in handling sterile equipment
- Proficiency in procedural moderate sedation
- Proficiency in sterile procedure setup
Required Licenses / Certifications
- Current Registered Nurse as defined by California Board of Registered Nursing
- Current CPR through the American Heart Association
- Current ACLS certification
- PALS certification within 6 months of hire
