Description

The incumbent plays a key role in supporting laboratory research operations by executing complex experimental protocols and overseeing large scale animal studies. Responsibilities include planning, coordinating, and conducting research activities; managing laboratory operations and administrative functions; and ensuring compliance with established research, safety, and regulatory standards. The position also supervises laboratory staff, provides technical guidance and training, and helps maintain an efficient, collaborative, and productive research environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute complex experimental protocols and research procedures.
  • Lead and oversee large scale animal studies and related research activities.
  • Manage laboratory operations, resources, and administrative functions.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor laboratory staff.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory safety, animal care, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support the successful execution of research projects and operational goals.

*This is a rehire retiree limited appointment through 8/30/2027 at 30% FTE.

Salary: $36.13 - 58.11 hourly

Qualifications

Required:

  • Ability to train staff and supervise effectively
  • Biosafety Level 3 certification and excellent knowledge of biosafety standards including BSL1, BSL2 and BSL3
  • Excellent knowledge handling M. tuberculosis, M. bovis, LVS, L. pneumophila and others
  • Technical expertise in animal research techniques
  • Expertise in immuno-assay techniques
  • Excellent Knowledge of DNA cloning techniques and molecular biology
  • Experience with protein purification including column chromatography, gel electrophoresis, blotting and protein assays
  • Experience utilizing the UCLA BruinBuy online purchasing program
  • Ability to analyze data using Excel spreadsheets
  • Computer skills including MS Office, Adobe Photoshop
