Position Title: Crate Builder
Wage: $19.00/hour Shift: 1st The Crate Builder is responsible for constructing high-quality wooden crates and packaging components used to protect industrial products during storage and shipment. This role requires strong attention to detail, measurement accuracy, safe use of hand/power tools, and the ability to follow blueprints or customer specifications. This company in Milwaukee, WI builds custom solutions, so each project may vary in size, complexity, and material. Crate Builder Responsibilities: - Build wooden crates, pallets, and custom packaging components according to work orders, specs, or engineered drawings - Measure, cut, and assemble lumber using saws, nail guns, drills, and other hand/power tools - Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and cut sheets with precise measurements - Inspect finished crates to ensure quality, durability, and accurate dimensions - Safely handle lumber, metal hardware, fasteners, and other building materials - Maintain a clean, safe, organized work area following company and OSHA standards - Operate forklifts or pallet jacks (if certified) to move materials as needed - Communicate with lead builders or supervisors regarding any issues or material shortages - Follow all company safety rules, including PPE requirements (gloves, glasses, hearing protection) Requirements for Crate Builder: - Experience with construction, carpentry, woodworking, machine operation, or similar hands-on roles - Ability to read tape measures, blueprints, and work orders accurately (1/16" precision) - Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort using power tools - Good physical stamina; ability to lift 50-75 lbs and work on feet for extended periods - Reliable, punctual, and able to work in a fast-paced production environment - Team-oriented attitude with strong communication skills - Forklift experience a plus (not always required) QPS Employment Group is a full-service staffing firm comprised of dedicated and passionate people with over 50 offices throughout the United States.
