Cardiovascular Pharmacoepidemiology - Data Analyst

The Division of Epidemiology and Community Health, School of Public Health, University of Minnesota, seeks a graduate research assistant (25% time) to support cardiovascular pharmacoepidemiology research projects. The candidate would use administrative claims data, specifically MarketScan and the Medicare 20% sample. Projects may look at risk of developing cardiovascular disease, evaluate the comparative effectiveness and safety of pharmacotherapies, assess predictors of use of guideline-based care, etc. Topics of particular focus include understanding treatment practices and outcomes in rural areas, as well as the effects of contemporary drug therapies (e.g., GLP-1 RAs, SGLT2is) on cardiovascular disease outcomes. The graduate assistant will report to Dr. Pamela Lutsey, and the work will be conducted in-person at the West Bank Office Building (WBOB), Division of Epidemiology and Community Health located at 1300 South 2nd Street, Minneapolis, MN.

The assistantship is for fall semester (October 1, 2026 - January 13, 2027) but may be renewable. It carries an hourly stipend ($28.93 - $33.61 an hour, depending on qualifications) and benefits.

Work schedule in person at WBOB (West Bank Office Building) during regular business hours
Position is covered by the GLU-UE contract

Literature review, data analysis, writing scientific papers:

* Comprehensive review of the literature on a research topic (10%)
* Conduct quantitative data analysis (e.g., descriptive statistics, correlations, linear, logistic, and Cox regression) using SAS statistical software (40%)
* Maintain documentation of datasets and analyses (5%)
* Prepare tables and figures and writing up results for academic publications / presentations (40%)
* Other duties as assigned (5%)

Required Qualifications:
* Must be a registered graduate student at the University of Minnesota, and must maintain the minimum number of required credits
* Data analysis experience
* Good skills in writing scientific papers
* Understanding of threats to validity in epidemiologic studies, and how to mitigate them

Preferred Qualifications:
* Epidemiology graduate student (MPH or PhD)
* Working knowledge of a statistical software (SAS preferred)
* Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with faculty, staff, and students
* Experience conducting managing data files and conducting basic data analysis
* Prior roles that required attention to detail

Pay Range: $28.93 - $31.35; depending on education/qualifications/experience
