Our internship program offers students a dynamic opportunity to gain hands-on experience, build valuable relationships, and develop essential skills while contributing to projects that support our mission and values. This summer internship is tailored for college students entering their senior year who are interested in pursuing a career in the insurance industry. Interns will receive training in our product lines and gain exposure to real-world underwriting practices.

This position is an in-office role located in Madison, WI or West Bend, WI. No remote opportunities for this position are available at this time.

The role will assist in operations such as quoting new business, processing renewals, and contributing to various underwriting projects that impact profitability. The program also offers a broad view of our organization through cross-functional experiences with departments such as Claims, Loss Control, Accounting and Sales.

Additional opportunities include:

Job shadowing with experienced underwriters to observe territory management and book-building strategies.
• Field visits with Loss Control specialists to understand risk evaluation in diverse business environments.
• Agency interactions to learn how underwriting decisions align with agent relationships and submissions.
• Professional development through mentoring, Capstone presentation and feedback sessions that highlight your internship journey and impact.

Preferred Education and Experience

• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in a related field, preferably Risk Management & Insurance, Business or Math
  (rising senior status in Summer of 2026 is highly preferred)
• Intermediate knowledge of personal computers
• Interpersonal skills
• Exceptional communication skills
• Ability to contribute in a team environment

The hourly range for this position is $20.00-$24.00 per hour.

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, geographical location, and internal equity. Compensation decisions are made by West Bend and are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
