The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Accounting Supervisor.

General Description
Supervise the maintenance of the general ledger for all funds, including monthly general ledger account reconciliations, reviewing and monitoring of various general ledger account activities and balances.
Supervise the monthly financial closing process in the financial system, including the timely and accurate recording of adjusting journal entries and accruals.
Supervise various accounting functions such as the recording of capital assets, accounts payable, payroll review, cash receipts deposits, grant billings, filing of sales tax and water tax returns, and promotional reports.
Perform related work as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting or finance; or a Bachelor's degree and coursework that qualifies for the CPA Examination.
Requires three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in governmental accounting or closely related experience; including one (1) year supervising subordinates and working collaboratively with a team and customers on solution-focused outcomes.
Special Certifications and Licenses
Possess and maintain a valid Florida and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License at the time of appointment and for the duration of employment.
Ability to secure and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification card (TWIC) within 60 days of employment and for the duration of employment.
Ability to secure and maintain a valid Port Security Identification Badge for the duration of employment.
Preferences
Master's Degree in Accounting or Finance
Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO)
Florida active CPA license
Certified Government Finance Officer (CGFO)
Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA)
2+ years experience preparing audited financial statements
1+ years experience using workpaper management software
1+ years experience using PeopleSoft financial software
1+ years experience with capital projects accounting & Monitoring construction/project expenditures against approved budgets.
- 1+ years experience in interpreting and applying federal/state grant requirements, including Uniform guidance and grant-specific compliance requirements.

SCOPE OF WORK

Duties and Responsibilities
* Oversee the maintenance of the general ledger for all agency funds, programs, projects, and activities, including monthly account reconciliations, review of account balances, investigation of variances, and resolution of discrepancies. * Supervise the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing processes, ensuring that adjusting journal entries, accruals, prepayments, allocations, and other required transactions are properly reviewed, approved, and recorded within established deadlines. * Review and monitor financial transactions and accounting records to ensure accuracy, completeness, proper supporting documentation, appropriate account coding, and compliance with internal controls. * Supervise accounts payable functions, including invoice processing, vendor payments, and reconciliation of vendor statements. * Supervise the accounting and reporting of capital assets, including acquisitions, disposals, depreciation, transfers, inventory records, and periodic reconciliation of capital asset schedules to the general ledger. * Oversee grant and program accounting, including grant billing, expenditure tracking, reimbursement requests and collections, revenue recognition, grant reconciliations, and financial reporting in accordance with applicable grant requirements. * Review and oversee required tax and regulatory filings, including applicable sales tax, water tax, payroll-related filings, and other statutory reports, ensuring timely and accurate submission. * Support external and internal audits, including preparation of audit schedules, reconciliations, supporting documentation, responses to audit inquiries, and implementation of approved corrective actions. * Maintain and strengthen internal accounting controls, identifying control weaknesses and recommending improvements to safeguard agency assets, ensure reliable financial reporting, and promote operational efficiency. * Supervise, train, and evaluate accounting staff, assign work, establish priorities, review completed work, provide technical guidance, and promote consistent application of accounting policies and procedures. * Utilize the agency's financial management and accounting systems to review transactions, generate reports, monitor financial activity, and ensure the integrity of accounting data. * Coordinate with other agency departments and external parties regarding accounting matters, financial documentation, billing, payments, grants, contracts, audits, and other financial activities. * Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and financial reporting, including automation, reconciliation procedures, workflow improvements, and data accuracy. * Maintain confidentiality and security of financial information and ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, agency policies, and records-management requirements. * Perform related duties and special projects assigned by management.

Physical Demands
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
