Job Summary

The University of Colorado Law School welcomes applications for a Marketing and Communications Specialist! This role is responsible for supporting internal and external communications of the Law School to sustain and enhance the school's reputation for world-class education, scholarship and service. This position assists in the execution of a comprehensive marketing communications strategy that regionally and nationally promotes Colorado Law's faculty, staff, students, centers, and programs. This position ensures all marketing and communications activities of the law school are high-quality, consistent, and aligned with central messaging priorities and branding standards.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Content Creation:

  • Write, edit, distribute and track content for various audiences, including news stories, feature articles, profiles, website content, emails, e-newsletters (such as the monthly alumni newsletter Law Points), annual reports, talking points and class notes.
  • Assist with writing, editing, planning and logistics for the annual Amicus alumni magazine.
  • Update the Colorado Law website, including the creation of new webpages and editing existing content.
  • Provide communications support for major events such as lectures, conferences, alumni programs, commencement, orientation and signature law school events.
  • Assist Director of Marketing and Communications in the development and coordination of print communications projects including brochures, event flyers, the admissions viewbook, admitted students' collateral, event postcards and programs, and thought-leader collateral.
  • Find opportunities to tell compelling stories in creative ways across channels and audiences that exemplify Colorado Law's mission and strategic direction.
  • Ensure all content created conforms to university brand guidelines and publishing policies, editorial style, organization, and appropriateness.
  • Coordinate with Marketing and Communications Director and Strategic Relations and Communications to submit news items to appropriate outlets and pitch story ideas for submission to news outlets.

Design, Photography, and Digital Communications:

  • Create graphics for social media posts, event flyers, email newsletters, and web content, ensuring digital content is consistent and aligned with university brand guidelines.
  • Manage the design and deployment of digital posters on law school display systems.
  • Assist with managing the law school's online calendar.
  • Photograph events in the law school community and coordinate with freelance photographers for coverage of higher-profile events. Identify subjects and locations, coordinate shot lists and organize photo assets.
  • Connect with Strategic Relations and Communications and campus communicators as necessary, attending communications meetings and trainings.
  • Assist the director on additional projects as needed.
  • Supervise and guide a student employee.

Social Media:

  • Monitor social media strategies to create engaging content for all social media platforms.
  • Develop and implement a content calendar to schedule and track posts.
  • Be the primary manager of social media channels to provide accurate and timely outreach and information to prospective students, alumni, donors, and other friends and external audiences.
  • Track metrics to increase social media reach and engagement.
  • Assist with video ideation, storyboarding, and interviewing, as needed.

What You Should Know

  • This role has an anticipated work schedule of Monday - Friday during regular business hours. Some evening and weekend hours may be required.
  • This position has the ability to work in a hybrid work modality, with 3 days a week required to be in person during the academic year, and 2 days per week required to be in person during the summer.

What We Can Offer

  • The salary range for this position is $58,200 - $67,500 annually, depending on qualifications. Relocation assistance is available within department guidelines.

What We Require

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, English, Business or similar field. Related professional work experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the degree.
  • One year of related marketing and communications experience.

What You Will Need

  • Sound project management skills and ability to plan and organize multiple projects with established budgets, deliverables, and timelines.
  • Knowledge of a wide range of communications practices and tactics including research, writing, editing, integrated digital communications, social media strategy, and public relations.
  • Exceptional oral communication skills.
  • Highly collaborative teammate and fast learner.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to dive into projects (even if they require acquisition of new skills).
  • Adapt readily to changing priorities and propose/implement solutions when problems arise.
  • Ability to exercise discretion in handling sensitive information and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and cordially with students, donors, alumni, employers, faculty, staff, and other members of the community.
  • Ability to promote a welcoming environment which reflects the broad diversity and backgrounds represented by our faculty, students, staff, and community members.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • 3-4 years of relevant communications and marketing experience.
  • Experience using graphic design programs, including the Adobe Creative Suite and/or Canva.
  • Experience with website editing platforms, such as WebExpress or Drupal.
  • Experience using targeted email marketing programs such as Pardot.
  • Experience with CRM software, including Salesforce.
  • Experience capturing photography and video for social media and websites.
  • Marketing and communication experience in education/university setting.
