R&D Engineer 2 - 142081

Uses professional engineering concepts to perform moderately complex engineering assignments. Works in a specialized engineering field on a major training and / or research effort. Works on assignments of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors.

Under general supervision, the incumbent manages and provides technical and engineering support to the department's NanoEngineering undergraduate instructional labs and provide advice to the student research groups. In conjunction with faculty, designs and prepares engineering plans and specifications of moderate complexity for novel laboratory equipment and educational materials and experiments. Apply engineering knowledge in support of undergraduate lab courses.

Coordinates and manages laboratory teaching assistants and undergraduates' students for the Nanoengineering undergraduate program. Contributes to educational projects and assists with implementation of business processes.

• Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

• Working knowledge of engineering principles and methods in order to independently perform professional engineering design work of limited scope and complexity.

• Working knowledge necessary to begin independent application of principles, practices and procedures in the completion of assignments.

• Organizational abilities and decision-making to prioritize work assignments.

• Effective written and verbal communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work and communicate with a wide variety of people; ability to communicate with a diverse group of people in a helpful, effective and informative manner, demonstrating tact and diplomacy; skill in expressing oneself verbally and in writing; knowledge of correct English grammar, spelling and punctuation. Demonstrated ability to interact constructively with faculty, students and staff, exercising tact and diplomacy with emphasis on flexibility and professionalism.

• Ability to work in a collaborative manner, to assist in identifying any challenges or barriers. Demonstrated ability to work within a team framework with the ability to participate in group discussions regarding systems, procedures and goals of the Department.

• Experience in laboratory safety procedures and hazardous materials handling. Thorough knowledge of laboratory safety procedures, especially in regard to the handling of toxic, hazardous or dangerous chemicals, materials.

• Demonstrated experience working in a customer service or customer support setting. Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and provide appropriate support to our faculty, students, and staff.

• Demonstrated strong computer skills (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) to perform teaching tasks, generate user record and financial data, and to communicate with users. Ability to create professional reports, lab manuals, instruction manuals, graphs, charts, and spreadsheets.

• Proven experience in materials science, chemical engineering and/or nanotechnology, or related fields, and demonstrated ability to interact with researchers and faculty on their unique materials.

• Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results.

• May be required to work weekends or evenings for monitoring of equipment and to repair as needed as well as special events, such as Triton Day.
