Job Description

Works under the direct supervision of the Anatomical Pathology (AP) supervisor and serves in a supportive role to the Anatomic Pathology Team to assist in providing timely specimen collection, specimen distribution, and test result reporting for Cytology, Histology, and Pathology department. Collaborates with cytologists, histologists, and pathologists to ensure quality care and efficient turnaround times are met. Is expected to work independently for specimen collections for GI EUS, FNA, Surgical OR assistance, and departments at University Health. Additionally, is expected to be available for urgent GI procedures as needed by the GI Clinic. Assists in preparedness for The Joint Commission Survey. Assists in statistical and data analysis as needed. Cleans laboratory equipment as necessary and assists in regulating safety standards within departments. Assists in clerical duties of the departments. Responsible for general and specific duties as outlined below. Independently performs responsibilities with little or no direct supervision.

Minimum Requirements

  • Associates degree or equivalent in education and experience.

  • 1 - 2 years' experience in Anatomical Pathology.

  • Good organizational abilities, time management and priority setting.

  • Good working knowledge of hospital functions, working knowledge of good supervisory practices, laboratory functions, and adult learning principles and teaching techniques.

  • Detailed knowledge of clerical and office practices and detailed knowledge of computer and troubleshooting.

  • Good communication skills, verbal and written.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a medical/science/healthcare degree.

  • 3 - 5 years' experience in a fast-paced full service hospital laboratory operation.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy.

  • Experience in cytology or histology.
