Major Responsibilities

Patient Care & Clinical Support

  • Escort patients to exam rooms, take and record vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, height, weight, etc.).
  • Collect and document patient health history, status, and progress using standard protocols.
  • Assist in orthopedic procedures, including casting, bracing, wound care, and pre/post-operative patient management.
  • Assist in clinical procedures.
  • Review and track lab results, ensuring abnormal findings are promptly communicated to physicians.
  • Assist in moving, lifting, positioning, and transporting patients using proper body mechanics and safety techniques.

Sterilization & Equipment Maintenance

  • Prepare and set up exam rooms based on patient care needs.
  • Prep for sterilization and maintain orthopedic instruments and equipment per protocol.

Administrative & Scheduling Support

  • Assist with patient check-ins, scheduling, and appointment management.
  • Process prescription requests and refills per provider instructions.
  • Maintain and update patient records in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
  • Organize medical charts, logs, and documentation.
  • Verify prior authorizations for treatment, tests, and procedures.
  • Perform clerical duties such as typing, filing, scheduling, and handling phone calls per office protocol.

II. Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:

Required:

High School Diploma or equivalent. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or Heart Saver (HS) certification from the American Heart Association. If not available upon hire, a BLS/HS must be obtained within 3 months from date of hire. If certification is not obtained within 3 months of hire, the employee may be terminated or employee may apply for another position for which they meet the minimum qualifications. Medical Assistant credential, approved by the Massachusetts Department of Health (ARMA, NHA, etc.), must be obtained within 1 year from date of hire/transfer. If credentialing is not obtained within 1 year of hire/transfer, the employee will be terminated, or employee may apply for another position for which they meet the minimum qualifications. Senior Leadership in Ambulatory or Medical Group/Community Medical Group may grant an extended grace period for employees with extenuating circumstances, as appropriate.

Medical Assistant II Required:

All of the above and must already have the Medical Assistant certification or registration prior to start date.
