Position Description Summary:
The George Washington University Data Science program at the Foggy Bottom campus invites applications for three (3) Assistant Professor positions to start in Fall 2025. One of these positions will be eligible to serve as the director of undergraduate studies for the program and may be able to start as early as Spring 2025. Our program is particularly interested in faculty with expertise in Machine/Deep Learning, Data Visualization, Natural Language Processing and/or Big Data analysis. The selected candidates are expected to maintain a research program and teach graduate and undergraduate data science courses. These are full-time, non-tenure-track faculty appointments. The duration of the appointments is for three years and they are renewable.

The Data Science Program, developed through a collaborative effort between the Departments of Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Economics, Geography, and Political Science, enables students to understand data and contribute important insights in all aspects of our data-intensive society. The program provides students a deep foundation in computational and statistical methods, the latest techniques to analyze and visualize data and the skills to apply this knowledge to real world problems. The program prepares students for successful careers with industry, research institutions and government organizations. The program's location in the nation's capital offers unique opportunities to connect with government agencies and high-tech industries for research collaboration and funding. The program offers an MS in Data Science, a graduate certificate, a BS/MS combined degree program and an undergraduate degree.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
The new faculty members in Data Science will teach up to three courses each semester, including possible capstone research courses. Other duties include student advising, participation in committee work, mentoring students doing research and applied projects, and helping build relationships with industry and government Big Data professionals. Applied research and contribution to sponsored projects in data science is encouraged.
Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or other social or natural science with a focus on data science and documented experience in the application of data science to Big Data problems.
ABD candidates will be considered, but must complete all Ph.D. or Doctoral degree requirements by the date of appointment.
Advertised Salary: $100,000-$115,000
