Introduction

The Loudoun County Department of Transportation and Capital Infrastructure (DTCI) is seeking a self-motivated Senior Traffic Engineer with the special projects team. Job Summary

The Loudoun County Department of Transportation and Capital Infrastructure (DTCI) is seeking a self-motivated Senior Traffic Engineer with the special projects team.

This position will:
* Be responsible for managing multimodal safety and operational studies throughout the County, including corridor, intersection improvements, multimodal and speed management studies.
* Work with federal, state and local transportation agencies.
* Read and comprehend technical and traffic analysis reports, engineering drawings and site plans.
* Effectively convey complex technical ideas verbally and in writing.
* Make recommendations to difficult and complex roadway safety and operational issues based on engineering principles in compliance with federal, state, and county policies and regulations.

The successful candidate must:
* Possess strong project management and leadership skills.
* Have prior experience working with the public and elected officials.
* Know how to interpret traffic analysis reports and be familiar with traffic simulation software.
* Be dependable and customer-service focused.
* Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and have prior public speaking experience.
* Be able to reason and solve problems in a collaborative manner.
* Be able to manage multiple time-sensitive tasks in a fast-paced work environment.

This position is eligible for partial telework in accordance with County and Department Policies. Currently the Department is operating with a Wednesday and Friday telework schedule. Flexible scheduling is also available to address required meeting attendance outside of normal business hours.

This position is eligible for a $6,000 hiring bonus in accordance with the County's Hiring and Retention Bonus Program.

Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree with engineering coursework or degree related to assigned area; three (3) years of professional engineering and construction management work experience of a complex nature with direct design as well as administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

Criminal, credit, and DMV background checks are required

The position requires occasional attendance at night meetings to present information to the Board of Supervisors and/or other stakeholder groups. Candidate must possess a valid driver's license.
