Director, Financial Planning & Analysis

Overview

Reporting to the Head of R&D Finance, the Director of R&D Financial Planning & Analysis is a key member of Alnylam's Finance team. This role will work closely with business leaders at all levels of the organization and will be focused on providing strategic financial support to the company's global development program teams.

This position ishybridand will be primarily located inCambridge, MA.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the financial representative on global development program teams working closely with Program Leaders, Program Managers and functional experts. Offer guidance and support from a financial perspective to program teams while proactively managing potential risks and opportunities in close alignment with Finance leadership.
  • Provide strategic financial support (e.g. NPVs, IRR, etc.) for business case reviews to allow for thoughtful decision making by executive leadership. Present findings to program teams as well as senior leadership as appropriate.
  • Develop new program financial dashboard in partnership with key stakeholders across Finance and the business. New dashboard will summarize program financial and operational status and other important data points.
  • Support annual budgeting and long range planning processes by driving alignment on key assumptions between program teams and functional leadership and ensuring program team leadership is aligned on financial submissions.
  • Collaborate with R&D Finance, CMC Finance and Alliance Finance teams to understand key drivers of variance between actual results and budgets/forecasts. Review variance analysis with program team leadership and recommend changes to plans as appropriate.
  • Assist with the development of budgets for external partners in close collaboration with the Alliance Finance team.
  • Develop strong relationships with members of the broader Finance organization and support special projects and ad hoc analyses as necessary.
  • Support the growth and career development of more junior members of the R&D Finance team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance or other degrees with quantitative focus (e.g. Statistics, Econometrics, Mathematics) required. Relevant advanced degrees (e.g. MBA) preferred
  • 10+ years work experience in a combination of FP&A, accounting, valuation and/or other strategic finance roles
  • 6+ years of work experience in biotech / pharma industry, R&D experience required
  • Must have strong working knowledge of financial valuation methodologies applied in a biotech / pharma setting
  • Demonstrated ability to pivot between high-level strategic discussions and operationally executing on deliverables, ideally within a matrixed organization
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with multiple functions and with stakeholders of various levels of seniority
  • Proven ability to work with a high level of integrity, accuracy, and attention to detail
  • Maintain a positive, flexible, client-service attitude with business teams
