Transportation Alternatives

Transportation Alternatives (TA) is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit advocacy organization operating in New York City and supported by thousands of members and volunteers.

Since our founding in 1973, TA has worked in all five boroughs, advocating for innovative transportation policies, improvements in traffic safety, and increased access to the street for people walking, biking, and riding public transit.

Families for Safe Streets (FSS) is a group of spouses, children, siblings, and parents who have lost a loved one or have themselves been injured in a traffic crash, and who are organized around the fight for safe streets. FSS is an initiative of TA. Since FSS’ founding in 2014, more than a dozen local FSS chapters have formed in the United States and Canada.
